Saying goodbye to the Leeds JLD Charity of the Year for 2021!

In 2021 we were delighted to raise funds our charity of the year, Zarach.

Zarach was set up in 2015 to provide beds for children living in poverty across Leeds. Bex Wilson, the founder, who is a deputy head teacher at a school in Leeds, started delivering beds with the help of her dad, Mark, to children in her class who lived in poverty and had nowhere to sleep, and the charity has grown from there.

Despite not being able to hold our first in person event until June, our members managed to raise an amazing £1,620 for Zarach through raffles at our summer BBQ, our Halloween ball, and at various sports and social events throughout the year. We were also delighted that April and Mark from Zarach were able to attend our ball to talk to our members about their work at the charity.

These funds will mean that 10 children will be able to have a good night’s sleep and be refreshed and ready to learn in school. Zarach had the following words to say in response:

“Zarach would like to thank Leeds Junior Law Division and all its members for the support they have given to us during 2021. Fundraising is difficult at any time, but it has been even more difficult during the Covid pandemic. We know how crucial sleep is to a child's ability to engage in school, your donation has enabled more children to Eat, Sleep, Learn and has enabled Zarach to continue with our commitment to provide Every Head a Bed. Thank you for choosing to support Zarach.”

We would also like to thank our 2021 ball sponsors, CapeClarke, for their generous donation to Zarach after hearing from Mark and April at the ball. We are also delighted that CapeClarke have become Zarach's first Dream Maker for 2022.
