JLD Advocacy Talk with Emily Ward

The Leeds JLD were fortunate enough to be joined by Deputy District Judge, experienced Barrister and Deputy Head of the Family Law Team, Emily Ward of Broadway House Chambers to host an Advocacy Talk for our junior lawyers.

Guests were greeted with a glass of fizz and had the chance to network with other junior lawyers before the talk started at 6pm.

Emily gave an extremely informative talk on all of the ‘do’s and don’ts’ of advocacy, including a discussion around the importance of preparing for hearings, how to deal with witnesses and general Courtroom etiquette. Emily also explained how advocacy is so much more than just putting your client’s case forwards in the Court room, as well as entertaining our attendees with lots of personal anecdotes.

We are extremely grateful to Emily for giving up her time to speak to our members and for providing such an insightful and interesting talk. Thank you also to all who attended – we hope you found the evening useful and look forward to seeing you at our future events!
