Choose your Leeds JLD Committee for 2025
FELT OFFICER:
RYAN REVILL

I should be elected as the FELT Representative on the Leeds JLD committee because I have first-hand experience on what it is like to work within a FELT law firm. I currently work at Tyr Law which currently has two trainee solicitors and so I understand the environment in which an employee at a FELT law firm works in. I have worked at Tyr Law for over a year and I worked at my previous law firm, Capsticks Solicitors, for over two years so I am able to distinguish the differences in a FELT law firm’s approach compared to a law firm that spans multiple cities in the country. This means I would be able to represent the FELT law firms at meetings to help their interests and be a face at JLD events that members of FELT law firms feel like they can talk to and discuss their different experiences, along with any concerns they may have.

I have attended numerous JLD events such as the Winter Ball and Summer Social, along with FELT events. At the JLD events I have spoken to JLD committee members which has helped me with my understanding of what a committee member’s role entails and has contributed to me wanting to apply. The JLD events have improved my networking skills through speaking to fellow legal professionals who I had not met previously but have since made connections with through these events and allows me to go to other JLD events in the knowledge that I will know a large amount of people there.

I would bring an enthusiastic attitude to the role of FELT representative, which I have shown at Tyr Law when I was made Culture Champion earlier this year. This is awarded to a person every financial quarter who embodies the law firm’s values, with the reasons given for why I got the award including organising a sweepstake for the European Championships which brought a fun atmosphere to the office and helping the finance team to implement a new payment service. I have since been told that I was the first paralegal to win this award. From the experiences with my law firm and with the JLD, I would be able to book events which allows fellow FELT legal professionals to socialise and network with each other to see how other law firms operate and obtain contacts for the future, as they continue through their legal career.

I have shown that I can organise events through my role in Tyr Law’s charity committee, where I have contributed ideas at meetings and have taken on roles of organising initiatives such as Christmas Jumper Day and a bake sale. Outside of work, I am currently organising a charity football match and raffle which has involved liaising with charity representatives, companies and sport centres, while also contacting potential players who are able to play. This experience will help in the FELT representative role when having to organise any future FELT events.
